We bought this vacuum based on the good reviews but I just had to write another one after using it. When I started using the vacuum I thought the "embedded dirtfinder technology" was the biggest gimmick there was. After using the vacuum for a few minutes I realized that it actually works. There two lights (one red and one green) on the lower left corner of the vacuum and they switch from red to green when the carpet is actually clean.

I thought to myself "yeah right" but when using it, the light stayed red for a long time in high traffic areas of my house but in the spare bedroom where no one ever walks it was green almost right away. I really worked harder on those high traffic areas to get that solid green light and I really feel like my carpet is clean now. Give it a try - it makes vacuuming much more entertaining.

A couple years ago, I got rid of my bagged vacuum in favor of a bagless model because I thought it would save me the cost and trouble of having to buy and replace bags. I was wrong. I have hated that bagless since I bought it. The bagless is very messy to clean. When you empty the dirt container, dirt and dust goes everywhere. The upper compartment and the multiple filters also need to be cleaned often. I have a cat and the cat hair was difficult to clean out due to static electricity. So, I gave away my perfectly usable Bissell bagless and I am back to a bagged cleaner, and I couldn't be happier. The Hoover U5491900 Windtunnel Anniversary Bagged Upright is a very good vacuum, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. It's not particularly heavier nor noisier than any other quality upright. It has great suction, edge cleaners, and the tools are easily accessible. There's a small amount of assembly which takes only about 5 minutes. The hose is a bit short, but it does come with two extension wands. You can also purchase a longer hose separately. My only complaint is the way the electrical cord gets in the way of the hose when you clip it to the recommended hook on the back.

We are very happy with this machine. It was replacing a very old Hoover that had seen better days. I got the model w/o the self propel feature, however, the suction is so strong that it feels like it takes off on its own. The dirt detection function is a really neat feature and I recently moved it to the more sensitive setting to try to get the carpets extra clean!

The only drawback is that I have to order the replacement bags online through Hoover.com, but I knew that before I purchased the machine and it is no big deal if I keep track of my bag supply. This machine is a WONDERFUL buy!
